Polaroid Photo Exhibition

The Finnish Museum of Photography located at Kaapelitehdas ie. Cable Factory in Finland.

As I am a huge fan of photoes I love to go to photo exhibitions and this is the best museum in Helsinki for that.

The current exhibition was especially interesting as it was all about Polaroid photoes

There is something really mesmerizing in those old fashioned polaroids...

Weekend Trip To Stockholm

It takes less than an hour to fly from Helsinki to Stockholm. That (among other things) makes Stockholm a perfect weekend mini-holiday destination.

I love just walking around beautiful Stockholm watching people, buildings and the seaview.

Vasastan
There are many interesting museums, like my favourite Fotografiska, where I tend to visit every time. They have had really high profile photo exhibitions, such as Annie Leibovitz, Anton Corbijn, Robert Mapplethorpe and now Sally Mann

Fotografiska
This time I did two museum visits as I also wanted to see Yoko Ono's exhibition at Moderna Museet. Few weird videos and texts from the book Grapefruit.

Moderna Museet's permanent exhibition includes some interesting pieces like Andy Warhol's Brillo boxes.

The museum itself locates at beautiful Skeppsholmen and even if one is not interested in the museums (The Museum of Modern Art, The Architectural Museum and East-Asian Museum) it is nice to have a walk around the tiny island.

When getting tired of museums there is another reason to walk around as Stockholm offers plenty of opportunities to shop.

Besides my usual shopping spots (Åhlens, NK, Biblioteksgatan and Södermalm area) this time we also visited Quality Outlet Stockholm at Barkarby. It was very convenient to take a local train from Stockholm Central Station (pendeltåg towards Bålsta) to  Jacobsberg, where you chang to bus 567 and get off at bustop Herrestavägen. The whole trip takes approximately 30 minutes and if you like the brands that are present at the Outlet, it is worth for a fews hours journey.

After visiting museums and shopping it is nice to sit down and have something good to eat. Dumplings are the new sushi and there are plenty of places to choose from. This time we chose Jappi Sushi & Wok at Drottninggatan and both sushi and dumpligs were delicious.

Dumplings
I like this new trend of Asian fast food and cannot wait this kind of dumplings restaurants and Wagamama to land in Helsinki.

We had dinner at Lebanese restaurant Sahara, which was cozy, yet little bit cold restaurant in Vasastan. Would really like to have their lunch buffee as it sounded very versatile yet reasonably priced. Tasted some nice meze portions and my favourites were meat pies (Sambousak Bel Lahme) and Halloumi cheese.

So this trip was mainly museums, food and shopping. What a nice and relaxing weekend!

Really need to go to Stockholm again soon!

One Day In Photos

Tuesday 15th May was all about Aday.org theme: picture today, inspire tomorrow. Just another ordinary Tuesday, but still so different when looking at different people's lives. Purpose of the project was to invite different people to take photoes of their normal activities during the day. Categories for photoes were home, work and connections and one was able to load 10 photoes all taken on Tuesday.

I found this really interesting concept as different people would share their perceptions of the world during the day. Also, for myself this was tempting idea to look my day as my schedule variates so much day by day. And it made me think about my time management challenges.

Basically you can divide the day in three parts: 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours of work and 8 hours of leisure time. That should serve just fine, but if one sleeps and works more than 8 hours the remaining free time becomes less. And it really is precious to dedicate spare time to things that matter in order to enjoy life to the full. For me that is meeting friends, walking, having coffee, watching movies, going to town, listening to great music, reading, dinner parties or exercising.

This Tuesday I had planned and booked plenty of other things besides the work and managed to carry out my program quite as planned. Sun was shining in the morning and I had some errands to run in the center of Helsinki before going to work. Working till 18.00 and going for a cafe after work. Then meeting a friend and going to see Juha Lehti (lead singer of Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit) at Korjaamo. As it was such a gorgeous evening I also took a short walk in Töölö before going to home.

Like Martti Ahtisaari, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former President of Finland decribed the event: “The scope and diversity of this project makes it unique. It puts everyone’s life in the centre of a giant story of our times, yet to be told.”.

Ps. Here is my aday.org profile and 10 photoes: aday
