Helsinki Design Open: The Iron House

Rautatalo ie. The Iron House is office block opposite Stockmann, which was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1950's.

Premises are usually not open to public, but now it was possible to visit the building as Helsinki Design Open event during 4 days in August.

The inner courtyard The Marble Hall with the Cafe was really stylish. It really is a shame that this venue is not open to public as it was really charming. One would like to have an opportunity to visit places like this, which are important part of Helsinki history.

In the event there were several Finnish design companies present with their production.

Once again it wasso gratifying to state how simple and stylish Finnish design is.

"We should work for simple, good, undecorated things... things which are in harmony with the human being and organically suited to the little man in the streets" Alvar Aalto 1957
